See New Acquisitions by the Dallas Museum of Art

A vibrant mixed media collage by Evita Tezeno, a painted procession of foxes by Jessie Homer French, and a contemporary twist on a Greek urn by Krzysztof Strzelecki are among the 10 artworks acquired by the Dallas Museum of Art from the 2022 Dallas Art Fair.

The acquisition was made possible by the Dallas Art Fair Foundation Acquisition Program, now in its sixth year, which places works on view at the fair into the DMA’s collection. The annual program has funded $675,000 for the DMA's permanent collection to date, including this year's grant of $125,000. Last year, the museum added six works to its collection—which numbers more than 23,000 works—from participating galleries in the fair, including pieces by Jordan Nassar, Sarah Cain, and Johnny Floyd.

“These selected works perfectly represent what we offer, which is an enormous breadth of artistic talent across many countries, age ranges, and levels of career recognition,” Kelly Cornell, the fair's director, said in a statement.

The artists's age range from 23 to 82, and hail from across the the world, from Dallas to Poland. The acquisitions include Kohshin Finley's contemplative A Portrait of the Artist as Himself (2022), as well as Untitled No. 2 (2016), a stormy, abstracted scene depicted in walnut ink by Athena LaTocha.

“The Dallas Art Fair Foundation Acquisition Program allows us to be responsive to what is animating contemporary art today: from concerns for the environment to the complexities of how we see ourselves and others, from the need to rework art history or to express love and joy,” DMA senior curator of contemporary art Anna Katherine Brodbeck said in a statement.
